A challenging par 4 for everybody. Off the tee you are faced with a stretch of heather and then a sunken road which runs diagonally across the hole - the shortest carry is on the left. The longer the tee shot, the narrower the fairway. Course architect Arthur Croome originally designed this hole without a fairway bunker because it would help the big hitter work out the distance while penalising the ‘rabbit' who might be caught by it. The bunker you see now was introduced in 1973. The open front to the green allows a running shot but watch out for steep banks at the back.
